Why we built Talkify

The fastest way to feel comfortable speaking a new language is to use it in real conversations. Talkify gives learners a simple place to practice speaking without the pressure of a classroom, fixed lesson schedule, or scripted exercise.

Live voice rooms for language learners

Talkify supports voice rooms across 14 languages. You can browse available rooms, join a conversation, practice naturally, and leave when you are ready. When other learners are not available, self-practice tools such as flashcards, a phrase library, and shadowing exercises help you keep learning.

Reliable voice rooms with SFU technology

Talkify voice rooms use a Selective Forwarding Unit (SFU) architecture. In an SFU setup, participants send their audio to a media server, and the SFU forwards the appropriate audio streams to the other people in the room. This approach is designed to make group conversations more efficient and reliable than requiring every browser to connect directly to every other participant.

The SFU handles real-time media routing for the room; Talkify’s application servers handle functions such as room discovery, access and participant coordination. This architecture allows Talkify to support live group conversations while keeping the joining experience simple for learners.
